God Knows

by Honesto Geronimo

Jesus said to Peter, “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”.”  Mt 16:13-20

A King went hunting for tigers with his slave. Unfortunately, he lost a finger when a tiger attacked him. Back in the palace, the King asked the slave why God allowed such a mishap. The slave answered that God knew what He was doing and had a purpose for the accident. Angered at such response the King had his servant jailed. On the next tiger hunt, the King was captured by cannibals. However, when they were about to put him in the boiling cauldron they noticed his missing finger. And they set him free for it was against their belief to eat an incomplete offering. Back at the palace the King realizing that his servant was right after all, asked him why God allowed the servant to go to prison. The slave answered that God knew what He was doing. Had he joined the King in the second hunt the cannibals would have eaten him in place of the King.

God always knows what He is doing. As St. Paul asked the Romans “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Who has been His counselor?” Rom.11:33-36

Why did Yahweh choose Eliakim to replace Shebna as high priest? Is 22:19-23 Why did Jesus choose an uneducated fisherman to be the rock foundation of His church, to bind or loosen chains in His kingdom? Mt 16:13-20

How inscrutable are the judgments of the Lord and unsearchable His ways? In our doubts may we trust him and follow His ways. For as we responded in today’s Psalm: “Lord your Love is eternal. Do not forsake the work of your hands “
