School Break Activities from DBTI Victorias

As soon as the new Pastoral Anmator, Fr. Nioret Geronimo, and the Practical Trainee, Br. Keiyth Bernales, arrived in Don Bosco Technical Institute at Victorias they were immediately involved in a series events one after another. On July 31 Campo Quaero started. DBTI’s motto is Altiora Quaero translated as “I seek what is higher” thus the camp’s name. Much to the happy surprise of Bro. Keiyth Bernales, new practical trainee assigned in DBTI, the camp was completely organized by the SYM officers who gave the camp it’s theme: “Make Waves, Be Brave” . Fr. Rooney Undar SDB came from Cebu to give the first input while the rest were taken by the youth leaders. After three hectic days filled with formation talks and fun games, new members were recruited strengthening further the SYM Council.

On August 5-6 Coach Mike Artillo DBTI’s football coach organized a football festival over the weekend inviting the different soccer teams all over Negros island. The response was overwhelming getting paticipants from as far as Don Bosco Boys Home in Dumangas, Iloilo. Compared to the previous football festivals this so far is the most successful.

The opening was graced by the presence of the mayor of Victorias. The younger elementary teams played in the first day, while the secondary squads competed on the day after.

Right after the teachers arrived from their summer break, DBTI invited Fr. Dindo Vitug SDB, executive officer of One TVET, to facilitate the making of it’s Institutional Development Plan from the present until 2028. The heterogenous group was made up of alumni, parents, business people as well as DBTI’s Salesians and employees. It lasted for three days at the end of which everyone was happy with the new directions that came up.

As a break from the busy schedule, on the FMA institute day Fr Rector, Gio Santos, and Fr. Nioret visited Laura Vicuña Women Development Center in Hacienda Malihao where the sisters have a TVET and Senior high school for the poor young men and women of the area. The teachers and some Salesian Cooperators were also present. In that occasion the sisters from the boarding house in Bacolod joined.
