Of Faith and Dreams: Living the Legacy of St. Jerome of Stridon

by: Sophia Lauren A. Pacaña

Why wait for the feast day when you can celebrate early? The Biblos Sodality thought the same and joyfully honored their patron, St. Jerome of Stridon, on September 28, 2025, at Pilgrim Hall, DBYC-Lawaan.

St. Jerome is an important figure in the Church because he translated the Bible into Latin, known as the Vulgate. This made the Bible easier for many people to read and understand. He was also a dedicated scholar and teacher who helped spread God’s message to more communities. Because of his work, St. Jerome is remembered as a key figure in making the Scriptures accessible to all.

After a quick introduction about St. Jerome, the five sodalities presented short film tributes with the theme “Of Faith and Dreams.” Each film reflected the creativity and deep faith of the sodalities, allowing many voices to be heard.

Knights of the Altar (KOA) – Their film “Saksi ang Langit” proved that they are not only dedicated servants of God but also talented actors. As some would say, “mala-Daniel Padilla ang actingan!” The story reminded us that even in our struggles, when we feel unseen and unheard, God is always watching and has already planned everything for us.

Biblos – Do you feel lost or hopeless about something uncertain? In a world full of chaos and darkness, there is always a light that shines and a hope that leads us to Him. The film entitled “Serenity of Hope” reminded us that God is our pahinga. He may be silent, but He always listens and never judges our stories.

Lilies of the Altar (LOA) – Signs cannot determine whether someone is meant for us, but when the right time comes, God directs that person to us. “Special Someone” tells us that God has already planned our path—our profession, our mission, and even the person who will stand by our side.

Young Saints Choir – In today’s world full of uncertainties, there is always one thing certain: God is always there for us. Their film, “Pagtuo ang Suga sa Damgo,” reminded us that when we feel alone and unlucky, we just need to look around. There are people who care for us, just as He does. We may think the world is bad, but if we cannot endure the toughest times, maybe it only means we are not yet ready for the greater challenges ahead.

Zatti Friends – They may always be there in the corner in case of an emergency, but behind all of it is a life full of dreams. Their video, “Everyday Life,” was a reflection of commitment and passion, showing that even with their busy schedules, they still choose to serve.

After the event, the winners were announced by the Biblos Sodality President, Sherry Anne Alenton. This was followed by a joyful salo-salo prepared by the members of Biblos. The smiles, laughter, friendly chikas, and shared meals were a wonderful witness of unity that strengthened their faith and bond as one family.

This event teaches us to be grateful for what we have and to work hard for our dreams. It was not a competition, but an eye-opener for the youth—reminding them that every person has a dream, and that with faith in God, those dreams can be guided and fulfilled in His perfect time. Just like St. Jerome, who did his best to translate the Bible so that people could understand the Word of God, we are reminded that the things we do today can bring great change and help those around us.

They may be young, but they serve with hearts full of love and wisdom, continuing the legacy of St. Jerome. Young dreamers, always remember: life may be short, but it is full of mysteries waiting to be discovered. Dream big, keep going, and trust in God’s plan.
