Prenovices Deepen Vocation Discernment Through Reflective Journaling

by: Prenovice Simon Castor

To bring out the best in their discernment process, the prenovices of Don Bosco Formation Center-Lawaan underwent a seminar-workshop on Reflective Journaling from August 6–8, 2026, at Don Bosco Formation Center-Lawaan III, Talisay City, Cebu. The interactive seminar was organized by the Prenovice Director, Fr. Joseph Kunle Ugundana, SDB.

The featured speaker, Ms. Lesley Anne A. Rosal, demonstrated how God communicates with us through our ordinary duties and experiences, which need to be reflected upon and developed into the habit of reflective journal writing. She presented various techniques and ways of recognizing God’s patterns in a person’s life and vocation. The attendees explored different ways of discerning God’s path of redemption through awareness of their daily experiences and transforming each moment of encounter into written reflection.

The seminar-workshop program comprised input sessions, journal-writing moments, and honest sharing circles, providing the prenovices with an integrated experience. Emphasizing the heart of the seminar-workshop, Ms. Rosal encouraged everyone with her closing message: “Journaling is to see patterns of God’s message of love in our lives. Be open to it.”

The event was also attended by an aspirant from another religious congregation, who eagerly explored reflective journal writing as a tool for her own discernment toward religious life.
