All Are Invited. Few Entered.
The king said to him, ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?’ But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’ Many are invited, but few are chosen.” Mt 22:1-14
28th Sunday Ordinary Time Cycle A
God invites everyone to heaven. This is the clear message of the parable of the wedding feast. The people originally invited alluded to the Jews, God’s chosen people. But they rejected Jesus as Messiah. Thus, they are the ones that refused the invitation. The non-Jews therefore were invited to take their place in God’s banquet. All were welcomed regardless of the fact they do not belong to the chosen race. But nevertheless, even if it were so, they must be decent enough to join the feast. In the end all are welcome in God’s kingdom as long as they do good as represented by the wedding attire.
As Jesus once told the Pharisees that the prostitutes and publicans are getting ahead of them into heaven
because they have started changing their ways whilst the Pharisees refused to budge from their complacency.
No one is special or exempt from conversion because all are sinners. There’s no other way to feast at the Lord’s banquet except through change of ways.
