Anchored in Bosco’s Spirit: A Gathering of New Salesian Rectors

The Salesians of Don Bosco of the Philippines–South Province hosted the East Asia–Oceania Formation of New Rectors (EAO-FNR). From November 23 to 26, forty rectors from ten provinces of the EAO Region gathered at the Don Bosco Retreat House in Lawaan, Talisay City, Cebu, for an intense immersion into the role of the Rector in a Don Bosco setting.

Bro. Raymond Callo, SDB, from the Formation Sector of the Salesian Generalate in Rome, facilitated the event, which aimed to form holy, wise, and servant-hearted Rectors capable of leading with love, listening with humility, and living with authenticity—anchored in the spirit of Saint John Bosco.

Small-group sharing

The four-day event revolved around four daily sessions of inputs and small-group sharing, which served as avenues for the rectors to exchange best practices and discuss the challenges of their respective settings. On the last day, a cultural tour was held, during which they visited important historical landmarks of the host city. To culminate the occasion, a fellowship gathering took place at the Salesian Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, where they were presented with local delicacies and treated to Filipino hospitality.

The EAO Formation of New Rectors is a regular gathering of new and upcoming Rectors to help them live out their roles as leaders and fathers of their communities. This year’s EAO-FNR successfully delivered its true intent to the new Rectors—to empower them to be Don Bosco in the midst of the young.
