Focus Group Discussion on Rethinking Salesian Education Held in Cebu

by: CYM correspondence

As preparations begin for the 150th anniversary of St. John Bosco’s Preventive System in 2027, Salesian communities across the world are invited to reflect on an essential question: How is Salesian education understood and lived today?

With this spirit of reflection, four Salesians and four Lay Mission Partners representing various Youth Ministry sectors gathered on May 15, 2026, at Don Bosco Technical College–Cebu for a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Rethinking Salesian Education. The gathering served as a venue to reflect on and share their insights on the realities, challenges, and lived experiences of Salesian education within the FIS context.

The activity forms part of the global research initiative on Rethinking Salesian Education that seeks to revisit and deepen the understanding of Salesian education across different contexts and cultures, ensuring its continued relevance in responding to the realities of today’s young people.

The discussion was facilitated by Fr. Rooney John Undar, SDB, FIS Youth Ministry Delegate, with sharing from diverse Youth Ministry sectors including school, youth center, parish, the Salesian Youth Movement, vocation ministry, formation house, and training center.

While contexts and times continue to evolve, the heart of Salesian education remains unchanged: accompanying young people with reason, religion, and loving-kindness toward forming good Christians and honest citizens.
