October 3–4, 2026 — Don Bosco Technical College–Cebu — The four youth centers in Metro Cebu—Pasil, Lourdes, Lawaan, and DBTC—held their annual sports league last weekend. The iDBYC Sports League 2026, organized by the Commission on Youth Ministry (CYM), brought together around 500 young people for a weekend of games, sports, and various competitions.
The competitions ranged from major sporting events such as basketball, volleyball, futsal, and eSports to individual sports like badminton, chess, and table tennis. To celebrate Filipino culture and traditional games, competitions in Bahaw-bahaw, Patintero, and Sungka were also held. Beyond athletics, the young people competed in singing, hip-hop dance, cheerdance, essay writing, poster making, Word Factory, Scrabble, and jigsaw puzzle solving.
The league provided numerous opportunities for young people to compete, build friendships, and connect with one another. This annual event aims to support and strengthen participation among the youth centers. The youth center is at the heart of the Salesian ministry, continuing the work that began with St. John Bosco’s mission to young people.
The event began with an opening Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes. Afterward, the young people held a street parade from the shrine to Don Bosco Technical College–Cebu. During the opening ceremonies, the CYM delegate, Fr. Rooney John Undar, SDB, reminded the young people, “Others have hope because they have you.”
At the end of the league, DBYC Lourdes emerged as the overall champion after gaining the highest number of points across all events, reclaiming the championship from DBYC Lawaan.
The sports league was organized by young people for young people, with a team headed by Ivan Vincent Villareal as the head commissioner of the league. The event not only challenged young people in sports and the arts and brought the youth centers together, but also provided an opportunity for a new generation of leaders to emerge and shine.
