REAVO Cebu Chapter: DBTC–Cebu Salesian Cooperators Among the Silent Responders Behind the Relief Operations in Northern Cebu

by: Salesian Cooperators correspondence

Following the September 30th 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Northern Cebu, a dedicated group of first responders has been working quietly yet tirelessly behind the scenes — the Radio Emergency Assistance Volunteer Organization (REAVO) Cebu Chapter.

Established in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), which devastated Northern Cebu in 2013, REAVO has since evolved into a trusted volunteer emergency response unit providing immediate assistance in times of crisis. The organization has once again demonstrated its steadfast commitment to humanitarian service by mobilizing relief efforts for communities affected by the recent earthquake.

Leading the operation are Engr. Jed Narvios, an alumnus of Don Bosco Technical College–Cebu, and Mr. Judan Sta. Teresa, a Salesian Cooperator affiliated with the same institution. Under their leadership, the REAVO Cebu Chapter coordinated logistics, emergency response, and aid distribution in partnership with local authorities and private sector donors.

From managing the command center at the Cebu Provincial Capitol to packing and distributing relief goods and delivering first aid to affected residents, the team’s multifaceted response showcased both professionalism and compassion. Supporting them were the young Bosconian volunteers of the REAVO Greywolves, embodying the Salesian values of service, discipline, and solidarity.

While much of their work takes place away from public attention, REAVO Cebu Chapter’s role in this disaster response underscores the vital importance of community-based volunteerism in times of emergency. Their dedication stands as a testament to the enduring impact of faith-driven civic action and technical competence — qualities that continue to define Don Bosco-trained professionals.

REAVO Cebu Chapter serves as a reminder that in every crisis, there are those who work quietly behind the limelight, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.
